Maui Day 4

Maui Day 4

Thursday July 24th

We had to wake up really early today to drive to Makena which was about 30 minutes from us. We were going to the Maui Ocean Center to check in with the Pacific Whale Foundation to go snorkeling.

We took a boat out to the Molokini Crater which was about a 45 minute boat ride. It didn't seem that long though since the views of the ocean and sun were just amazing. There were some pretty high trade winds that made the water pretty rough. They served us a continental breakfast on the boat (and might I just add that Hawaii has THE BEST Pineapple EVER hands down! I love it.).

So, when we got to the crater, the captain wasn't sure we should get in the water since it was so rough. He let everyone in for about 10 minutes then had to pull everyone out. Chris was able to snorkel pretty well in these conditions. I didn't fair as well. Without getting too detailed, let's just say that I should've skipped this stop and not attempt my first snorkeling experience in such rough water. Next time, I'll know better..

After Molokini, they took us to a place called Turtle Reef aka Turtle Arches. Chris was able to swim with 3 sea turtles and really enjoyed it. I was pretty sea sick (as were a lot of other ppl), so I didn't get in at this stop. I got better later though and did get to see some turtles that came to the surface. We also were served a bbq lunch on this trip which was nice as well. (Check out images of Molokini Crater and Turtle Arches on Google)

Here's a turtle for your viewing pleasure:

Later, we got all dressed up and headed back to Front St in Lahaina Town to eat and watch the sun set. We ate at a place called Front St Grill and Bar. They had a deal where you got half off a second entree when you bought one entree. I had shrimp scampi with rice and Chris had a burger again. We both liked our food a lot. We also met a waitress who gave us some good advice on where to eat and
where to snorkel.

After dinner, we watched the sun set.........

We spent some time in the jacuzzi when we got back.
Today was a much better day.....
